Receives

“SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT AND EXCELLENCE AWARD”

for his work

SAVING AND SHARING MAINE’S SCOTS and SCOTS-IRISH HERITAGE

William “Bill” McKeen of Whitefield, Maine has been recognized for his decades of work researching and presenting information on the history and culture of Maine’s Scottish and Scots-Irish population. This is a first of its kind award issued by the Maine Ulster Scots Project (MUSP) in recognition of Bill’s dedication and leadership in documenting the history and stories of the Scottish Diaspora in Maine.

Bill has served the Saint Andrews Society of Maine for decades and in many capacities including Maine Highland Games Chair, Historian, and President.

Bill is also a founding director of the Maine Ulster-Scots Project (MUSP). Bill saw the creation of MUSP as an opportunity to bring more information and education to the public. Bill has given his time and experience to pageants, lectures, archaeological digs, and the 300th anniversary symposium held at Bowdoin College in 2018. And, most recently, he has organized his research on the first individuals and families to arrive in Maine from Scotland and Ulster. The data will be used in the soon to be released book, Ulster-Scots on the Coast of Maine, Volume II. Bill’s research will also be featured in the days ahead on the MUSP website www.maineulsterscots.com

In addition to a framed award certificate, Bill received a hand crafted ring designed and made on the north coast of Ireland near the location of Bill’s McKeen family origins.

Congratulations Bill McKeen and thank you for believing in the MUSP mission enough to dedicate years of your life to making it successful. Hundreds of families have, and will continue to benefit from your tireless work SAVING AND SHARING MAINE’S SCOTS-IRISH HERITAGE.
