Notes on Eating and Accommodations in the Brunswick, Maine Area
We have included four spreadsheets with the registration packets: Eating, Accommodations, Camping, and car rental agencies, including local taxi service. These are not being represented as being exhaustive. While efforts were made to include all locations, there might very well be places appropriate to each that we have missed. Being on the list, or not being on the list, does not indicate either an endorsement of the establishment or its disparagement by Maine Ulster Scots Project. If you don’t like what you see, you can always do an Internet search on any of the titles and maybe find something else.
The spreadsheets are designed to automatically download when you click on their icons. Once downloaded to your computer’s Download Folder they can be sorted or searched to suit your needs. In particular, you can sort on type of restaurant, for example, or search the description column for “breakfast”. One or two motels also advertise accommodations for pets, and a word search for that should quickly find them for you. Note that some links inside spreadsheets do not open properly. That’s a well documented Microsoft problem we can not fix, but be assured that, if you copy and paste such a link directly into your Web Browser, it will open correctly.
At the end of each spreadsheet, we have included instructions for International dialing to facilitate calls to make reservations for places to stay, or for calling home while you’re visiting Maine.
If you rent a car, be aware that Maine does have strict laws concerning drunk or impaired driving. If you choose to stay someplace too far from the site of our social meetings to walk back, please get a ride or take a cab to the social events. We really do not want to lose any of our guests!
Because there are other events that overlap ours, parking may be an issue on and near the Bowdoin College campus. We will have complete information available at sign-in on where you can and cannot park.
For reference purposes, downtown Bath and downtown Freeport are each approximately 8 miles from the Bowdoin College campus. Topsham Center is about one mile away. Harpswell is a bit spread out, so expect 7 to 14 miles for locations there. Orr’s Island, Bailey Island, and Cundy’s Harbor will be similar distances. Nothing listed as being in Brunswick is more than 4 miles from the campus.
